Omaha beach mod men of war3/17/2024 ![]() It has some interesting missions and whatnot and well as an actual first person mode for basically the infantry weapons which is unique to the series but all in all, CTA feels like an ambitious mod for AS2, as it just recycles a lot of the animations and whatnot. You also need to buy Call to Arms to get GOH. I'd say it's worth if you really want a more modern looking game and UI but basically all of the mechanics and AI is ripped directly out of MOW. Based on Omaha Beach and covers three sectors Charlie, Dog White and Dog Green which saw some of the fiercest resistance from the German Defenders. It's a lot of you attacking an AI just chilling in a trench, or you sitting in a trench waiting for the AI to come at you. Gates of Hell is a beautiful that looks and literally runs better than the other games do because it is on a better engine but I found the campaign to be just a sidestep to the rest of the MOW series. ![]() People love this formula in AS2 enough that they bugged the GOH devs to add that formula in their game but they didn't. ![]() It also offers really fun co-op with other people. I feels more dynamic as you're always on your toes as you push up the map. A lot of the limitations with the AI in these games is removed because of how the AI tries to recapture the objective poins. There are a lot of these more narrow maps that you have to push up the map and capture these points which unlocks more units/points for you. Imo though, AS2 has the best formula for a lot of it's campaign missions. And some people literally ported entire campaign and audio from classic first person shooters like Medal of Honor, COD, or Brothers in Arms as a RTS game and it works really well. Like, Vietnam '65 is an entire port of their other commercial game on the newer engine but with enhancements. There are some really great mods on there. Then the base version of Assault Squad 2 for the mods. It's absolutely worth checking out for a dollar (There are also mods for it too) It's fun to see how it all started and you kinda learn the basics of these games because a lot of the mechanics are the same with the inventory system and whatnot, even when going into GOH. You're generally micro-ing fewer guys, while the map design is more like a sandbox, so you can get more creative with doing the objectives. Soldiers is more of a "Commandos" style of game and it is set apart from the rest of the series. Like, Soldiers: Heroes of WW2 that started it all, or the first MOW. I'd get some of the earlier games while they're literally a couple bucks.
